Embroidered Pieces

The female nude is one of the most popular subjects in the history of painting, inspiring artists for centuries. The political implications of unclothed women as subject and ideas about gender-specific gazes have been a contested feminist dialogue since the 1970s.

Today, contemporary art is engaged in a constant reshuffling of ideas and the ways we receive them. “An Illustrated History of the Naked Woman in the History of Art” is my attempt to position myself in that illustrious chain of artists who for 500 years have expressed their artistic response to the female form. By appropriating images from well-known masters, repeating and multiplying them en masse, mixing up time periods of representation, and applying them like chorus girls to paper, my hope is to add a new twist and humor into the plethora of contemporary nakedness.
